4 million foreclosure cases up for review

About 4 million homeowners who may have been improperly foreclosed upon in 2009 and 2010 are getting an opportunity to have their cases reviewed. Whether they will be reimbursed is up to the same lenders who are accused of moving too swiftly to seize their homes.
The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency said Monday that mortgage services will begin sending out letters this month that ask borrowers if they want their case reviewed. The nation’s 14 largest mortgage servicers – including Citibank, Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase and Wells Fargo – were ordered to offer to review cases after the government found that some rushed the foreclosure process without carefully reviewing documents. Average Housing Prices Drop In US

Actual average property prices in the United States fell by 0.4% in August compared to the previous month, the first monthly decline for four months, according to the latest data from CoreLogic.
The information, analytics and business services provider’s August Home Price Index (HPI) also shows that distressed sales have fallen by 4.4% year on year.
Excluding distressed sales, year on year prices fell by 0.7% in August 2011 compared to August 2010 and by 1.7% in July 2011 compared to July 2010. D

Former country church now a home in labor of love

GRANGER TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Maybe it was youthful optimism that drew Kris and Marty Ryan to the dilapidated house on the eastern edge of Granger Township, Ohio.
Then again, maybe it was divine guidance.
The house had once been a country church, which was probably a good thing. The Ryans would need plenty of strength from above to get through the 20 years it took them to finish its renovation.
Now the former East Granger Disciple Church is a comfortable home for the Ryans and their four children, Katie, 23, Joe, 20, Kelsie, 18, and Molly, who turns 12 next week. I
